Autumn 2010 Sturm! brought to the market a new line of chainsaws under the BauMaster brand. The novelties belong to the household class and in retail will be cheaper than the Sturm models! similar power. The reduction in price was achieved primarily due to the use of Chinese saw sets (tires and chains) instead of the more common “Oregon” ones. The new line consists of three models: read the description of two here, and we managed to test one more (the results are given in the corresponding editorial review.

Lightweight, inexpensive and easy to use saw. The primer is easy to start, the metal spike makes it easier to cut thick logs, and the rear handle is spring-suspended to reduce hand-held vibration. The light weight means less fatigue when working.

The carburetor, chain and tire are made in China, which made it possible to reduce the price while maintaining a resource sufficient for household saws. However, tires and chains for a chainsaw are consumables, and if the owner quickly depletes their resource, then nothing prevents them from installing new ones.

The tire length of 40 cm is sufficient for almost any work, because even when bucking a particularly thick tree, the cuts are made from both sides, that is, the maximum “sawn” diameter is equal to twice the length of the tire. Agree, few people have ever sawed logs 80 cm thick or more. Thus, BauMaster GC-99458X is a good choice for a summer resident who needs to cut firewood from time to time, remove dead wood or remove a fallen tree.

EQUIPMENT: saw; tire; chain; tire cover; file; a container for preparing a fuel mixture; screwdriver; instruction
PRICE: RUB 4150

This very powerful saw for the household class is equipped, like many professional ones – a chrome-plated piston and cylinder, two piston rings, a metal crankcase, an adjustable oil pump, a primer, and easy access to the air filter.

The rear handle is spring-suspended to reduce vibration. Cheaper compared to Sturm models! achieved thanks to the use of a Chinese chain and bar, but with careful work and timely maintenance of the chain (straightening and sharpening), the difference will not be particularly noticeable. Careless exploitation (for example, touching the ground with a moving chain) can reduce the life of even the highest quality chain. Conversely, attention during work can significantly extend her “life”.

The toothed stop made of steel sheet is screwed to the body, that is, if it breaks, it can really be replaced. Its teeth are large and directed slightly upward, which is why, with strong pressure, they only dig into the tree more strongly, facilitating the transfer of force to the tire. The chain catcher is plastic and also replaceable, which is undoubtedly useful – after a chain break, it can be easily replaced.

As a result, we got a saw that perfectly combines the convenience of work, a rather low cost for such a cylinder volume and power, and a fairly large resource.
